Charles Rwomushana Arrested at Radio Simba Studios After Comments on Alleged First Family Power Struggle
Political analyst and former intelligence operative Charles Rwomushana has reportedly been arrested by armed security operatives at Radio Simba studios in Kampala following controversial comments about an alleged power struggle within Uganda’s First Family.
Rwomushana was reportedly taken away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, shortly after appearing on Radio Simba’s popular current affairs programme, Gasimbagane N’ebanamawulire.
According to reports, several armed security operatives dressed in civilian clothes approached Rwomushana inside the Radio Simba premises before leading him away.
The circumstances surrounding his arrest immediately triggered concern among opposition politicians and other Ugandans on social media.
NUP’s David Rubongoya Raises Alarm
National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya was among the first prominent opposition leaders to speak out about the incident.
Rubongoya questioned the manner in which Rwomushana was allegedly taken from the radio station.
“Charles Rwomushana grabbed out of Simba Radio studios by armed men in civilian clothes? Whatever is not happening in Uganda!”
His comments quickly attracted reactions online, with several people demanding information about Rwomushana’s whereabouts and the reasons behind his reported detention.
Doreen Nyanjura Condemns Rwomushana’s Reported Arrest
Former Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura also reacted strongly to the incident, describing it as a forceful removal by unidentified armed operatives.
Nyanjura warned about what she described as increasing lawlessness and insecurity.
“Charles Rwomushana forcefully taken from the Radio Simba studios by unidentified armed operatives. When lawlessness becomes the norm, everyone on this sinking ship is at risk.”
By press time, Uganda Police and other security agencies had not publicly confirmed Rwomushana’s arrest, the reasons for his detention, or where he had been taken.
Arrest Comes Days After Comments About Muhoozi and Rwabwogo
Rwomushana’s reported arrest comes only days after he appeared on the same Radio Simba programme and discussed the growing political differences between Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and his brother-in-law, Odrek Rwabwogo.
During the discussion, Rwomushana reportedly made humorous remarks about what he described as a possible power struggle involving members of Uganda’s First Family and how President Yoweri Museveni was handling the situation.
Radio Simba published the August 29 programme under a headline focusing on the dispute involving Muhoozi and PACEID, the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development chaired by Rwabwogo.
Rwomushana appeared on the programme alongside Aisha Kabanda, Haruna Kanaabi and John Kakande.
Muhoozi-Rwabwogo Dispute Intensifies
The disagreement between Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Odrek Rwabwogo has attracted significant public attention in recent weeks.
Gen Kainerugaba has publicly criticised Rwabwogo and PACEID, making allegations of corruption against the presidential advisory body and threatening possible arrests.
Rwabwogo, however, has rejected criticism directed at the organisation and has also spoken against the use of force against government critics.

Charles Rwomushana’s Background
Charles Rwomushana is a well-known political and security analyst in Uganda.
He previously worked in intelligence and reportedly served as the head of the political intelligence desk in the President’s Office before later emerging as a prominent and outspoken commentator on Uganda’s political and security affairs.
Rwomushana has frequently appeared on television and radio programmes, where he discusses government policy, security matters and developments within Uganda’s political landscape.
Social Media Warning Before Arrest
Reports indicate that after Rwomushana shared a clip from his Radio Simba appearance on social media platform X, an account whose profile picture featured Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba allegedly posted a warning suggesting that he could soon be arrested.
The message reportedly read:
“Anytm you will be picked.”
It remains unclear whether the reported message was connected to Saturday’s arrest.
Authorities had not issued an official statement by press time explaining the circumstances surrounding Rwomushana’s detention.
The incident is expected to generate further debate about political freedom, freedom of expression and the treatment of government critics in Uganda.
